A dairy hand pulled in last February with a 6.7 Powerstroke that wouldn't start in his yard out by Wendell. Twelve degrees, fuel in the tank, batteries new last fall. By the time we got the scan tool on it we had the answer: a failed glow plug relay and two dead glow plugs that had been limping along since the year before. He was back on the feed route by lunch. That is the kind of diesel repair Jerome Idaho work we do every week — not theory, not guesswork, just trucks that have to run.

Diesels around here earn their miles. Farm trucks pull loaded gooseneck trailers across rough ground. Hot shots run the I-84 corridor between Boise and Pocatello at GVW every day. Older one-tons get handed down through two or three owners and still pull the camper to Stanley every summer. We treat every one of them the same way: diagnose first, explain what we find, and get it fixed right.

What we work on

We work on the three platforms most Magic Valley owners drive, plus the smaller diesels in vans, sprinters, and equipment:

  • Cummins — 5.9 12v and 24v, 6.7 in Ram trucks, plus the smaller 3.0 EcoDiesel. Injector and lift pump work, head gaskets, turbo replacement, CP3 and CP4 fuel system service.
  • Powerstroke — 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, 6.7, and the newer 6.7 generations. Head studs and gaskets on 6.0s, oil cooler and EGR work, FICM and injector diagnostics, HPOP issues, glow plug systems.
  • Duramax — LB7 through L5P. Injector replacement, turbo vane work, fuel pressure regulator issues, water pump and thermostat housing leaks, transmission cooler lines.
  • Emissions work — DPF cleaning and replacement, DEF system repair, NOx and EGT sensor diagnostics, forced regen, EGR cooler service.
  • Performance and reliability upgrades — lift pumps, larger intercoolers, exhaust, gauges, transmission coolers, and supporting modifications for trucks that work hard.

Why diesels here fail differently

Three things shape diesel repair in the Magic Valley. First, farm use is hard on injectors and fuel systems — dust, contaminated tank fuel, and long idle hours wear injectors and lift pumps faster than highway miles do. Second, the I-84 freight corridor and the haul to and from Boise put real load on turbos, head gaskets, and exhaust manifolds. Third, winter exposes every weak point on the cold-start chain — glow plugs, relays, batteries, fuel filters with water in them, and gelled fuel on the days nobody expected it.

DPF and DEF problems are their own category. Short trips and long idle hours plug filters. Failed DEF heads throw the truck into limp mode at the worst possible time — usually somewhere between Twin Falls and Burley with a loaded trailer. We diagnose the actual cause, not just the code, and repair the emissions system properly so it stays fixed.

In-shop or out at your place

We do most diesel work in our Jerome bay where we have the lift, the press, and the bench space to do the job right. For diagnostics, fluid services, and many roadside repairs we can come to you with our mobile mechanic service — farms, dairies, and job sites across the Magic Valley. If you run more than one truck, ask about our fleet services program for scheduled maintenance and priority scheduling.

Diesel work often overlaps with other systems. Hard-pulling trucks beat up clutches and transmissions; serious internal engine issues sometimes belong on the engine repair bench instead. We'll tell you which side of the shop your truck belongs on before we start.

Honest answers about your truck

Diesels are expensive to repair when they need real work, which is exactly why we are careful with the diagnosis. A $4,000 injector job is the right call sometimes. Other times the same symptoms are a $90 fuel pressure sensor and a tired lift pump. We test before we tear into anything, we send a written estimate before we order parts, and we call you if we find something else once we're in there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work on all three — Cummins, Powerstroke, and Duramax?

Yes. We see all three in the bay every week — 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins, 6.0 / 6.4 / 6.7 Powerstroke, and LB7 through L5P Duramax. We know what fails on each platform and we keep the right scan tools and gaskets on hand.

Can you handle DPF and DEF problems?

Yes. Plugged DPFs, failed DEF heads, NOx sensor issues, and forced regens are routine work. We diagnose the root cause, repair the emissions system properly, and get the truck running clean again.

My diesel won't start when it's cold. What's wrong?

Around here it is usually glow plugs, the glow plug relay, a tired battery pair, fuel gelling, or a failing FICM on Powerstrokes. We test the full cold-start chain rather than guessing.

Do you do performance work — tunes, deletes, lift pumps?

We do supporting performance work like lift pumps, fuel system upgrades, larger intercoolers, exhaust, and gauges. We follow the law on emissions equipment for street-driven trucks.

Can you come to my farm or job site instead of me bringing the truck in?

Often yes. For diagnostics, fluid services, and many roadside repairs we run a mobile service truck. See our mobile mechanic page for details and service area.

How long does a typical diesel repair take?

Sensor and electrical work is usually same-day. Injector jobs, head studs, and turbo replacements run two days to a week depending on parts. We give a written estimate with timeline before we start.
